If you happen to watch a lot of commercials on television, you may have noticed a change in the Yaz birth control commercial. The original commercial may have seemed to state that Yaz could help treat PMS symptom and give clear skin, along with preventing unwanted pregnancy. When the Federal Drug and Food Administration (FDA) saw the commercial, they immediately contacted the company and asked them to remove the commercial from being aired on television. This was due to the fact that the commercial distracted viewers from really hearing the side effects, so that Yaz seemed to be safer than other types of birth control. Also, Yaz does not treat PMS symptoms or give clear skin, so a new commercial was aired that stated that the FDA asked them to make some changes, thus they clarified how exactly Yaz is different from forms of birth control.

Yaz is a new type of birth control that has been shown to reduce PMDD symptoms. PMDD is premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which is a combination of symptoms that are severe enough to affect your life. These symptoms include irritability, moodiness, anxiety, feeling depressed, feeling out of control, and many other symptoms that fit into this type of category. Since Yaz can help resolve this problem, and provide birth control at the same time, those with PMDD find this to be an excellent choice for their birth control. PMDD is not PMS. The symptoms seem similar, but PMDD is much more severe.

There is a problem with this type of birth control though. Along with all the various health factors that come with taking birth control, there is also a new type of progestin in Yaz. Progestin is a series of steroid hormones that prepare the uterus for egg implantation. Unlike other brands of birth control, Yaz contains both estrogen and progestin. The progestin in Yaz is called drospirenone. The problem with this new progestin is that is has a dangerous side effect: drospirenone can increase potassium levels, which can cause problems when taken with other medicines. In order to make sure that potassium levels remain at normal level, it is important to have blood tests every few months if taking Yaz.

When choosing to take any type of birth control, it is important to look at all the warnings. Various brands have different problems associated with them. The main problem with Yaz is the potassium increase, but otherwise nothing too unusual has been found with using Yaz over other kinds of birth control.

When looking at positives and negatives of Yaz, it seems that it affects everyone differently. Some women have found that it increases their hormonal emotions, while others say it has helped stabilize moods. There are women who like and women who dislike Yaz-trial and error seems to be the only way to determine if a certain type of birth control works for you.
