I'm not really sure why I signed up for this piece. My opinion is not one that is linked to the major poles that the cheerleaders for each side tend to tie off their arguments or banners. If we continue to point out people and designate them as "different" through the use of monikers like minority, we will continue to perpetuate this debate and the divides between citizens of the same society and future while never achieving the ability to see people with color blind eyes. Everyone will always see someone as different if they are, that is never going to change. One of the problems is that people always try to impose the rules of their world onto others because those are the only rules they know. The thing that would save us our breath in this argument is if people could just try to understand others a little.
On the issue of numbers and percentages, I can only say that the answer to everyone's conundrum is located in the people who live around here. The base for the university population is located in the bluffs and valleys around the city of La Crosse. Lets face it, there isn't a whole lot of diversity out there ridding around on tractors. It isn't anyone being excluded. People tend to stay where they are comfortable until they are forced to do otherwise. It's not hard to figure that out.
