At the Tuesday night remembrance ceremony, some of those who had the chance to live with Craig Meyer shared their stories in front of a large group. These are some stories and memories others who lived in his dormitory shared.
“He was a really outgoing guy, nice guy,” said sophomore Chris Hemmer.
Originally from West Salem, Craig knew many of the locals and according to sophomore Andy Darniak, “He hung out with the cops a lot.” He mentioned that Meyers had befriended the liaison officers on campus.
Although he studied art during his time at UW-La Crosse, law enforcement was an interest of Meyers’, and his recent transfer to Western Technical College was to pursue his interest in the field.
Despite his change in majors, sophomore Ethan Peters’ commented, “He was a good artist.” Darniak added, “He always had nice pictures hanging on his door.”
All three students were surprised when they initially heard that Craig had wandered into the river area because it was an act they found uncharacteristic of him.
Although they hoped for the best for their former cube mate, previous river accidents deterred their faith. “I kind of assumed the worst when I first found out,” said Hemmer.
Craig was a resident of Hutchison Hall during the previous school year. He lived in cube 3B.
