Walking through Riverside Park, there is a noticeable floating barge missing from the Mississippi River. Crews pulled a water-filled La Crosse Queen ticket office from the river Friday April 16, after it mysteriously sunk into the murky waters. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the barge's owner, SkipperLiner Industries.

The floating office sank sometime after regular closing Wednesday, April 14. The sunken office housed a souvenir shop, ticket booth, and various types of computer equipment. Most items on board were unsalvageable as they were covered in mud.

According to Kayla Delagrave of SkipperLiner Industries, the company is sill unable to determine what caused the office to take on water. "Hopefully we will have more answers within the next few days," Delagrave said.

Despite the loss of the ticket office, Delagrave says upcoming trips on the La Crosse Queen will not be affected. With the official tour season starts May 8, tickets can currently be purchased by calling the La Crosse Queen Cruises at (608) 784-2893.

As for what will come of the ticket office in the future is still unclear. "At this time we are trying to decide if we are going to bring in a temporary ticket kiosk to sell our tickets out of, or if our gift shop will be repaired in time for the regular season to start. Either way the loss of our ticket office has and will have no effect on our tours or our tourism business," Delagrave claims.
