Looking for a great way to get out and enjoy the winter? Look no further, because the UW-La Crosse Ski and Snowboard Club is preparing a ton of events and trips to keep the boredom away this winter. All are welcome regardless of experience. Currently, there are 45 members in the UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club, but that number is rapidly increasing as the winter weather nears. Full story

After 18 wonderful seasons coaching volleyball here at UW-La Crosse, Sheila Perkins is retiring. Perkins has accomplished a lot in her 18 seasons at UW-L, including a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Association Conference (WIAC) Coach of the Year title in 2003 after going 33-6. Full story

Alpine ski club prays for more snow

Rushing down the vertical fall of an icy path, wearing nothing but a skintight body suit, where it's so cold that your breath makes icicles and you have to dig the edges of your skis or snowboard, praying to get around neon colored poles. Packers Choose Marching Chiefs To Perform At Championship Game

In 1967, the entertainment was our own Marching Band!

If the Green Bay Packers win the Western Division Championship game Dec. 23, the WSU-L marching band, the Marching Cheifs, will be performing during half-time at the NFL championship game on Dec. 31, 1967. The game will be played in Green Bay, WI. The CBS network will telecast the game in color nationwide. Full story

Defeats Japan’s Hayashi In Intenational Meet Final

The 1967 world champion amateur bowler is Jack Connaughton,a 22 year-old WSU-L senior. Jack beat Japan's Kazuo Hayashi, 195-172, Nov. 30 in the grand finale of the international bowling championship. Third place went to Italy's Lino Braglerei, a Milan salesman and fourth to France's Rene Ferrie, a Paris baker. Full story

Making victory a tradition

The UW-La Crosse Women's Basketball Team is gearing up for another strong season this year. Last season marked one of the best seasons in decades, earning the first 20+ winning season since the 1987-88 team. In the entire UW-L history, only six teams have made that mark. Full story

Six athletes inducted to Wall of Fame

Six former UW-La Crosse athletes were inducted into the campus Wall of Fame for their great achievements as student athletes last Saturday, Oct. 15. The six athletes include Richard W. Trickel (1958-1962), Doreen Ludlow-Groshan (1981-1985), Jodi Smiley (1981-1984), Drew Peterson (1990-1992), Mike Maslowski (1993-1996) and Kari DeLong (1996-2000). Full story

Special Olympics Day proves to be a success

"I really enjoyed our "Playing for a Cause" game because it's a good feeling to know that by doing something that I love, I can be benefitting an organization that has such a great impact on the lives of many people. UW-L women’s volleyball raises awareness about breast cancer

Dressed in matching pink uniforms with white trim, the ladies of the UW-La Crosse women's volleyball team squared up against conference rival UW-Oshkosh at Mitchell Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 19 for the team's "Diggin' Pink" event. The annual event raises money and awareness for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease that takes the lives of over 40,000 women each year according the Center for Disease Control. Gymnastics excited to defend national titles

According to senior gymnasts Kahlynn Hunt and Katrina Schuch, consistency was a main factor of the highs and lows that the UW-La Crosse Eagles gymnasts experienced last season. Due to injuries and an unusual amount falls on events, the Eagles found themselves in an unfamiliar position going into the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championships in Eau Claire last March. One of the more unique extracurricular activities offered at UW-La Crosse is the UW-L Water Ski and Wakeboard team. Only a handful of the UW System schools have a team, so our university is truly fortunate to be able to offer this to students. The team is co-ed and for anyone who enjoys these water sports. Football team falls short to UW-Eau Claire 31-21

The UW-La Crosse football team lost at home last Saturday, Oct. 15 against the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, 21-31. The Eagles received to begin the game and quickly marched down the field, picking up three first downs in a row only to end the drive with a missed 30 yard field goal. Full story

Madden NFL, NCAA Football, NHL and NBA—all are excellent sports and they all make excellent video games. There's an underlying problem associated with all of them, though: It's all geared toward the male population. Mississippi Valley Mayhem puts a modern spin on the old-school game of women's roller derby that so many people are familiar with. Head women’s soccer coach sets high goals

"No technique, no tactic." Sara Burton, UW-La Crosse's women's head soccer coach, spoke these words with confidence and determination. They are a philosophy, a way of learning the sport in an efficient and effective manner. Burton is in her 18th season as head coach of the women's soccer team and has done a terrific job leading various groups of women through this rigorous sport. Full story

When you step into the UW-La Crosse wrestling room you will be hard pressed to find an area on the wall that is not adorned with the banners and posters of past victories and championships. The UW-L wrestling team is one of the most competitive and successful varsity athletic programs UW-L has to offer, and Head Coach Dave Malecek and his army of wrestlers are ready to once again begin their season chasing that elusive Division III National Championship.
