Fight Spring Fever

As the temperature warms, then because we are in Wisconsin, goes about as low as it can. You might be exhibiting signs of Spring Fever. So if you are going stir crazy as you spend the third night in a row in the Murphy Library think about getting out in the cold while it lasts.

Everyone has probably heard that you can rent canoes from the REC center, which I don’t really suggest this weekend. But for less that $10 you can rent anything from skis to a five person toboggan for the day. So if you want to hit the slopes but you left your skis at home stop at the Outdoor Connection before heading out to Mt. La Crosse. Or if you have been eyeing that prime sledding hill you can rent an inner tube or a toboggan for all. Check out some airboards if you are feeling a bit more extreme. They also offer snow shoes so if hiking is more your speed you can take many of the trails open during summer and see them in there full winter beauty. The best part is that the Outdoor Connection is open for the public so you can rent it for parents coming to visit or the boyfriend/girlfriend to make it an extra special weekend.

Winter weather not exactly your thing? Try ice skating on for size. La Crosse area boasts two rinks; Green Island Ice Arena on 2312 7th Street South and Onalaska Omnicenter Ice Skating Rink at 255 Riders Club Road. Get inspired by the Olympics and take lessons if you are a beginner maybe not exactly to the point of a triple axel but you can learn to stop and skate backwards. Otherwise go catch a local hockey game and cheer them on. They have student discounts too, so a couple hours at the ice rink should only cost you about $5.

Maybe just getting out to your room is what the doctor prescribed. Consider going out for a discount movie at the Rivoli. Grab a few frames of bowling with some friends. Head down town for some great music, you don’t even have to be 21 to dance the night away at the Warehouse. Go out for Sunday brunch with the parents at Saint Rose Convent. Walk downtown this weekend for some downtown window shopping or go the Valley View Mall and join the many people who use the mall for winter jogging. Just don’t fizzle out right before Spring Break, only a week and a half to go!
